Finding Rest

Finding Rest

Hey, so here’s the thing:

My sleep schedule is an absolute mess right now. Some nights, I’m wide awake until the early hours, scrolling or watching movies. Other nights, I crash early, only to wake up multiple times feeling restless. There’s no in-between, no balance—it’s just chaos. And let me tell you, it’s really starting to catch up with me.

I’m tired of being tired (literally). My energy’s low, my days feel unorganized, and I know I’m not showing up as my best self. So, I’ve decided: it’s time to hit reset on my sleep and actually figure this out.

Let’s rewind for a second.

I’ve had phases where I was pretty good about my sleep. I had this cute little nighttime routine where I’d drink calming tea (Twining’s Sleep is my fave), do some light stretching while spa music played in the background, and prep for the next day. I’d even lay out my pajamas and light a candle to set the mood.

And you know what? It worked. Most nights, I’d fall asleep without much effort, especially if I used a breathing app or jotted down my to-do list for the morning. It was like clearing my brain of all the mental clutter.

But, somewhere along the way, I lost that rhythm. Now? No tea, no skincare, no prep. I’m staying up late, eating heavy meals at midnight (why do I do this?!), and letting distractions rule my evenings.

Here’s where I’m at now.

don’t just want to fix my sleep for the sake of feeling rested. I want it because I know everything else in my life gets better when I’m well-rested. I’m more productive, more energized, and honestly, just happier. So, here’s what I’m planning:

Bedtime Goals: I want to be in bed early enough to wake up at 6 AM feeling refreshed. I love the idea of having a slow, peaceful morning before heading to the gym at 7.

Prepping for Tomorrow, Tonight: Back to laying out my clothes, organizing my to-do list, and getting things ready for the morning so my brain isn’t racing with “Did I forget something?” thoughts.

Dealing with the Light Situation: My apartment has no curtains, and the fire escape sign lights up the whole room. I’m looking into a sleep mask (we’ll see how that goes).

Unplugging: Less screen time before bed and more intentional wind-down activities, like reading or stretching.

Eating Earlier: No more late-night feasts. I mean it this time.

What’s my sleep dream scenario?

If I could wave a magic wand, I’d get 7–8 hours of solid, uninterrupted sleep and wake up at 6 AM feeling like I’m ready to conquer the day. No snooze button, no grogginess—just me, my tea, and a calm start to the morning.

Tracking Progress (but not stressing about it)

I’m using my Apple Watch to track my sleep, but I’m also just paying attention to how I feel. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about noticing what’s working and making adjustments without turning this into another thing to stress over.

What I’m Trying

I’m testing out blue light glasses since I’m on screens so much these days, and I’m honestly excited to bring back my old nighttime routine—or maybe a new version of it that fits where I’m at now. I’ve learned that the little things, like sipping tea or stretching, really do add up.

What about you?

Have you ever struggled with sleep? What helped? I’d love to hear your tips because, honestly, I’ll try anything at this point. If you’ve got a go-to trick for falling asleep or staying asleep, please share!

I’m learning that sleep isn’t just something that happens—it’s something you have to work at, like any other habit. And I’m okay with that. I don’t need it to be perfect right away, but I do need it to get better. Here’s to figuring it out, one night at a time.

P.S. If you want to see more about my sleep journey, check out my Instagram posts this week. I’d love to chat with you there too!

I find temperature control plays a big part in sleep setup for me – a very cold room with a slight breeze and a reasonably cozy blanket/duvet (but not too thick or toasty) seems to keep me just at the optimal temperature.
And if I’m still struggling to get to sleep there’s 2 things that seem to help – take all the blankets off until I’m practically shivering, then cozy right back up into them (apparently dropping your body temperature like this sends your brain ‘sleepy’ messages). And name an A-Z list in my head on a random topic (something like counting sheep but more enjoyable and seems to help sort my thoughts out).

I love your plans for a cozy cuppa & soundtrack you associate with bedtime too! Hope it’s all starting to take effect.
